DUBAI, UAE — As summer heatwaves begin to push regional temperatures upward, Dubai is moving its running community indoors to ensure fitness routines do not take a backseat.
The highly anticipated Dubai Mallathon is officially returning for 2026, and it has undergone a massive seasonal expansion. Moving from its original month-long pilot, the city-wide wellness initiative will now span an entire three months, running daily from June 15 to September 15, 2026.
Led by the Office of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, the free community program transforms nine of the emirate’s premier shopping destinations into climate-controlled morning fitness tracks.
Beating the Heat: A Safe Haven for Runners
For local athletes, running groups, and daily walkers, training outdoors during a Middle Eastern summer introduces severe risks of heat exhaustion and dehydration. The Mallathon directly solves this barrier by using Dubai’s world-class, air-conditioned infrastructure to create safe, predictable environments.
Every morning from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM—right before retail stores open for standard trading—the participating malls open their doors exclusively for fitness enthusiasts. The routes cater to all paces and athletic capabilities, offering clearly mapped and secure loops:
- 2.5km Tracks: Ideal for casual walkers, families with strollers, and senior citizens.
- 5km Tracks: Tailored for intermediate joggers looking to maintain their cardio loops.
- 10km Tracks: Built for seasoned distance runners keeping up with half-marathon or marathon training blocks.
Nine Malls, One Unified Track Grid
To make participation entirely seamless for residents regardless of where they live in the city, the 2026 edition is running simultaneously across nine major retail hubs daily:
- Dubai Mall
- Mall of the Emirates
- Dubai Hills Mall
- City Centre Mirdif
- City Centre Deira
- Dubai Festival City Mall
- Dubai Marina Mall
- Dubai Festival Plaza
- Springs Souk
Building on a World-Record Legacy
The decision to expand the program into a three-month fixture follows an incredibly successful inaugural run that logged over 120 million total steps across the city.
The initiative also famously earned an official Guinness World Records title for the Most Runners in a Mall Run Event after a historic single-day turnout at Dubai Hills Mall. By embedding the extended project into the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2026 calendar, organizers aim to turn temporary summer exercise into a permanent lifestyle habit for tens of thousands of residents.
Supported closely by the Ministry of Defence and the Dubai Sports Council, the Dubai Mallathon is completely free and open to everyone. It acts as a primary pillar of the Dubai Social Agenda 33, proving that the city’s shared journey toward physical health doesn’t stop when the summer heat hits—it simply moves indoors.
