DUBAI, UAE – In a historic leap for urban mobility, Dubai has officially completed the world’s first commercial Air Taxi Vertiport near Dubai International Airport (DXB). Inspected by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, on April 16, 2026, the facility marks the transition from science fiction to technical reality.
The vertiport serves as the flagship hub for a city-wide aerial network designed to slash travel times across Dubai’s most congested corridors.
The Facility: A 4-Story Hub for eVTOLs
Developed by Skyports Infrastructure in partnership with the RTA, the DXB vertiport is much more than a landing pad. It is a fully integrated terminal designed to handle 170,000 passengers annually.
- Strategic Location: Situated adjacent to DXB, it offers direct intermodal connectivity to the Emirates Metro Station and features an integrated multi-storey car park.
- Rapid Charging: The station is equipped with the Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS)—ultra-fast charging tech developed by Joby Aviation to ensure taxis can be “refueled” in minutes between flights.
- High Capacity: With two dedicated takeoff and landing pads, the facility is prepared to manage up to 42,000 aircraft movements per year.
The Flight Experience: DXB to the Palm in 10 Minutes
The air taxi service, exclusively operated by Joby Aviation under a six-year agreement, aims to revolutionize how we move between the city’s key hubs.
- Time Savings: A journey from the Airport to Palm Jumeirah, which typically takes 45 minutes in peak traffic, will be reduced to just 10 to 12 minutes.
- The “Uber” of the Skies: Passengers will be able to book seats via a dedicated mobile app, featuring digital check-in and premium climate-controlled lounges to ensure a frictionless “gate-to-air” transition.
- Quiet & Green: The aircraft are 100% electric (eVTOL), meaning they produce zero operating emissions and are significantly quieter than traditional helicopters, making them suitable for low-altitude urban flight.
The Network: 4 Key Nodes by Late 2026
While the DXB station is the first to reach “technical completion,” it is part of a broader four-node network currently under development:
- Dubai International Airport (Completed)
- Dubai Marina (Under Construction)
- Downtown Dubai / Dubai Mall (Upcoming)
- Palm Jumeirah (Upcoming)
Full commercial operations and public boarding are targeted to begin by late 2026, following final regulatory certifications from the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
